I believe my dad, Perley R. Anair, was stationed at Camp Fannin in the early 1940's but am unsure as to how to find out for sure. Do you know of any place that I could write or email to that would have that record? He passed away in 1965 when I was 14 and I don't have access to any of his service records. All I can remember is seeing a picture of him and another soldier with Tyler, Texas listed as the location.
I
believe my Grandfather was a trainer at Camp Fannin in 1944. I have a copy of a
letter to him accepting him into Infantry OTC in July of 1944. The letter is
addressed to him, Cpl. Omer R. Shaffner at Hq Co, IRTC, Cp Fannin, Tex. The
letter is from JP Kushner, 1st Lt under a Maj Gen Hartle. It is stamped
received by Bernard W Cleaves, CWO.
Hello. I went to the contact us site and wrote an email and tried to send it and page or server not found. My name is Dedria Moore. I am doing Genealogy for my half sister and her father. They had a relative named Cramer A Mabus. In searching for him I also found a newspaper article from June 24,1945 stating that a Staff Sgt. Ralph W Clare got married and it also named his friend Pvt Cramer A Mabus and that both were stationed at Camp Fannin. Mr. Clare resided at 505 1/2 North Marshall, Henderson after the honeymoon. I'm trying to follow the trail of Pvt. Mabus to see if possibly he is related to my half sisters Mabus. Her's was in the Navy in 1920 and served aboard the USS Camden and eventually ended up living in New York. I'm trying to determine if the two were related because the family knows very little of their Cramer. He was born in Ackerman, MS in 1902 and died when he was in his 40's. Any help would be great.

January 4, 2004 Name: Frank A. Smith Email: anpsmith@chartermi.net Comments: I went through training at Camp Fannin in Co. B, 82nd Bn., 15th Reg. from mid Dec '44 to mid Apr '45. The 82nd Bat. was for Specialized Training and the group I was in were trained in various communication skills. I received training to be a Message Center clerk. Others were trained as telephone linemen, switchboard operators. We all had to be able to receive morse code, string phone lines and had some cryptography training. All the above were in addition to regular infantry basic training. A lot to accomplish in just 17 weeks. The Battle of the Bulge occured in the middle of our Camp Fannin training and we heard that some guys were shipped over there from C.F. with just 9 or more weeks of training. I remember only a few names: Trainees; Laverne Dykstra, Zurchmead (sp.?) Spivac. Cadre (training non-coms): 1st Sgt Edmunds, Cpl. Manke (from Hawaii). I could probably recall more with some concentrated effort. I'd better stop before I retell all my WWII experiences. I am now a retired electrical/mechanical engineer living in Traverse City, Mi. I was pleasantly surprised and very pleased to find this website and appreciate your efforts to keep such memories alive. F.A.S. |
