Hi...My name is Gus Rydholm and my father, Kenneth Lawrence Rydholm, from Marquette, Michigan, trained at Camp Fannin around '44 or '45. He went from Camp Fannin to Oregon to be shipped to the Pacific theatre when the war ended. From there, he joined with the occupational forces in Vienna, Austria. My dad talks fondly (about everything except the heat) regarding Camp Fannin and I'd like to get him some information. What did the base become and what, if anything, is left there that he'd recognize?  Is there anything left for a vet like my dad to visit?  He just turned 76 on Saturday and I'd like to get some information for him before it is too late. If it helps, he was attached to the 57th "Rainbow" Division.  Can you help?  My phone: (906) 228-4780  His phone: (906) 226-7353

My husband's grandfather passed away last Thanksgiving and he was very close to him.  This year for Christmas, I'm putting together a lot of things to honor his "Papa".  I know that Charles E. "Tip" Carter was discharged at Camp Fannin on January 19, 1946.  He was an Air Operations Specialist in the Army Air Corps.  If you have any information, or maybe even just knew him, please contact me!  It would be most appreciated!!!  Thank you and have a wonderful day!!!

I trained at Camp Fannin for seventeen weeks beginning the third or fourth week in September 1943. I don't know the training company unit, but would like to find out.  The Sergeant was Named Thomas, as I recall.  I was 18 years old. I enlisted in the army in May the week after graduating from Fort Dodge Iowa High School. I was then 17. After training at Camp Fannin as served with F Company and Cannon Company, 162nd Infantry Regiment of the 41st Division in New Guinea, Dutch East Indies, Philippines and in the Army of Occupation in Kure area of Honshu until being sent back to the states in January 1946 and discharged.  I received the Bronze Star.  Is there anyway to find out more about the training company at Camp Fannin that I was assigned to? Are there records? The training I received at Fannin was very good and certainly helped me live through the war, accomplish my duties, and defeat the enemy.

I read an article written by Seymour Saffer about the 99th Infantry Division and my uncle Captain Hugh Gettys who was killed Dec. 13, 1944.  Is there any way to contact Mr. Saffer or to find out anymore about the circumstances of Captain Gettys' death?  They were with the 395th regiment.  I don't know the battalion.

I was an 18 year-old young man, not yet out of high school when I was drafted from Iowa and sent to Camp Fannin, TX for replacement training in early 1945. I found the locals to be very friendly to the trainees from the camp. The training was rigorous, but rewarding. I earned the expert infantry badge there. I believe Gen. Hartle was the commander of the camp.

My father, Charles T. Christianson, was sent to Camp Fannin for basic training around the end of 1944. He ended up with the 90th infantry in the Ardennes campaign 1944,1945.

Finding your site gave me some hope that maybe there was some kind of record of the men that went through Camp Fannin in particular my father. If not it's nice that you have made available this link to such a important part of our past.
