New Ladies Auxiliary Officers
This photographer was so touched, even to tears, to see these spirited, strong courageous, once young men who shared and adventure forever changing their lives, their families lives, and the lives of a nation. Now they have come together to commemorate their journey. They lost many friends to the war and many through the years but these few go on.
Cathy and Steve Hesterley Captain Streeter claims to have "potty trained" Trainee Schroeder Henry and Eileen Snyder of New Mexico and Keith and Joan Streeter of Michigan are among the first to arrive Vets exchange stories while waiting for other CFA Members to arrive Don Ely and Harold Edwards, both of Illinois, first met at Camp Fannin in 1944. Have been life long friends. George.com and Elmer Horne prepare for early arrivers Melvin and Dorris Bruhn traveled the farthest, all the way from Portland, Oregon CFA Ex-Presidents Dave Wendt, Rovert Hobkirk, Evelyn Axtell, Leon St. Pierre, and Tommy Slaughter gather for Thirsday nights activities. Fannin Vets and their wives dance to the music of the Texas Swingers at Thursday night's celebration. Friday night's banquet was decorated by CFA's Women Auxiliary with world famous Tyler roses. Tall tales were dispensed at the Friday afternoon "Can You Top This?" session. First place went to Edgar Henley of Emmet, Arkansas. He was awarded Spam products for his hammed up story Friday night's USO-style show provided delightful entertainment by Barbershop Quartet "BUBBA" and the dance-and-song troop "Harmony & Understanding" who have also toured Europe. "BUBBA" and acronym for Barbershoppers United to Bring Back A Cappella Viola, John, and Leon ready the troops for a tour of old Camp Fannin Saturday morning Setting out for Saturday morning's bus tour of Camp Fannin Retired Air Force Chaplain, Major Gary O'Day, led the annual memorial service at the site of the new U.S.P.S. facility at the old camp Saturday's tour included a stop at the antique shop.
